These are photographs of the female flower at the top (green and sleek) and a male flower (looks like he needs a bath and a shave!) below. Catasetums, unlike Clowesias and Mormodes, have male and female flowers on separate flower spikes and normally at different times. This species is very common on the gulf slope/coast mainly at sea level from Tamaulipas to Tabasco. It is deciduous in winter and be careful with the spiny sheaths on the pseudobulbs. OUCH!!!
